Our innovative Pharmacy Intern Training Program (ITP) is focused on providing you, your preceptor and your employer with the highest level of support and encouragement during the vital pre-registration year.
Join the Guild ITP and learn how to take the knowledge you’ve acquired at university into your workplace. Develop the practical skills that will prepare you for the Pharmacy Board of Australia’s final oral examination and full registration as a competent, ethical pharmacist.
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is the national peak body representing owners of community pharmacies across Australia. We know community pharmacy like no one else does. We know the practical skills you will need to be a successful pharmacist and we know what your employer expects from you. Our members are your potential employers!
As well as completing the ITP, intern pharmacists and their employers must meet a number of other obligations set by the Pharmacy Board of Australia, during the pre-registration year. The Guild ITP team will support and guide you and your Preceptor through the year to ensure you meet all requirements.
The Guild ITP is committed to ensuring that Interns undergoing our innovative and unique program are on the absolute forefront of 5CPA professional services.
A key focus is the implementation, documentation and recording requirements for key Pharmacy Practice Incentives such as Clinical Interventions, Primary Health Care / Disease state management and community service support.
In addition to extensive training in professional service programs, the Guild ITP unique content focus will also ensure that Interns are well versed in all aspects of pharmacy – including pharmacy and financial management principals.
Guilt ITP staff are happy to assist employers in the search for potential interns.
The Guild Pharmacy Intern Training Program incorporates face to face workshops, online activities, workplace based assessment, completion of projects and written assignments and one-on-one sessions with your clinical tutor providing guidance and support. Our workshop speakers and presenters are highly qualified practising specialists in their fields and we ensure plenty of time for you to ask questions and participate in discussions.
Direct contact and easy accessibility to your clinical tutor is a vital ingredient in ensuring your successful completion of the Pharmacy Intern Training Program. Positive progress at your workplace is vital to the successful completion of the ITP. The Guild’s ITP includes regular workplace visits by your clinical tutor to monitor your progress as well as ensure communication lines with your preceptor and employer are open and ongoing.
You will have the opportunity to interact regularly with other intern pharmacists preceptors, locally and across Australia, through the Guild ITP online forums. You’ll be able to join in discussions or start one of your own. Through your own dedicated page you will be able to maintain your portfolio, complete and upload assignments, access additional e-learning modules and clinical bites, and access myCPD - the Guild’s online continuous professional development tracking portal.
Participation in the Guild ITP attracts great additional benefits including free associate membership of the Guild for the pre-registration year and at a reduced rate for the following three years. Guild Intern pharmacist will also receive free membership of the newly established Guild Academy, including access to professional development and the CPD Repository.
The Guild’s Pharmacy Intern Training Program (ITP) is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council in Tasmania, NSW, Queensland and WA. Accreditation for other States and Territories is currently being sought.
